Rotascore Live Scores Widget

ཞིབ་བརྗོད།

Rotascore Live Scores Widget adds free football widgets from Rotascore to any post, page or widget area: live scores, league standings, fixtures, results and the matches of a team.

  • League standings: the full table of a league, updated automatically.
  • Fixtures and live scores: the day’s matches and results of up to 10 leagues in one widget, with live scores. Show today, yesterday or tomorrow, and visitors can switch days.
  • Team matches: the next and the recent matches of a team, with your team highlighted.
  • Top scorers: the goals, assists and cards table of a league for the season.
  • Single match: one match with its score, minute and events as they happen.
  • Group tables: a league with several groups, such as a cup group stage, shows its groups as tabs in the standings widget.
  • Pick leagues and teams by name: search by name and see the logos. No ids to copy.
  • Live preview: the block shows the real widget in the editor, so you see what visitors see.
  • Adapts to your site: it follows your page’s light or dark look, text size, accent color and width, and resizes itself to its content. Light and dark can also be chosen by hand.
  • Block, shortcode, widget: a Gutenberg block (with “Standings”, “Top Scorers”, “Live Scores”, “Match” and “Team Matches” variants), a shortcode generator under Settings, and a classic widget for widget areas.
  • Options: language, theme, width, number of rows, team logos on or off, live matches only, visitor controls on or off.
  • Responsive, lazy-loaded, no layout jump.
  • Free. No account, no API key, no ads added by the plugin, no tracking by the plugin.

Shortcode

The easiest way is Settings > Rotascore Widgets: choose a league or team by name, check the preview and copy the shortcode. You can also write it by hand:

[rotascore type="standings" id="LEAGUE_ID" lang="en"]

[rotascore type="matches" leagues="LEAGUE_ID_1,LEAGUE_ID_2" day="tomorrow"]

[rotascore type="team" id="TEAM_ID" rows="5"]

[rotascore type="scorers" id="LEAGUE_ID" rows="10"]

[rotascore type="match" id="MATCH_ID_OR_LINK"]
  • type: standings, scorers, matches, match or team.
  • id: the league (standings, scorers), team (team) or match (match) id (letters, digits, _ and -). For match you can also paste the Rotascore match link.
  • group: for standings of a league with groups, the id of the group tab to open first (the first group by default).
  • leagues: for matches, up to 10 league ids separated by commas (id still works for one league).
  • day: for matches, today (default), yesterday or tomorrow. See the FAQ about caching.
  • theme: auto (default, follows your site), light or dark.
  • lang: a Rotascore language code, for example en, tr, de, es, pt-PT, zh-Hant.
  • width: optional maximum width in pixels such as 480, or full; by default the widget fills its container.
  • rows: number of standings rows, scorers or team matches per side (default: all; 10 for scorers).
  • highlight: a team id to draw in bold.
  • logos: 0 hides team logos.
  • live: for matches, 1 shows only the matches being played right now (no day buttons; day and date are ignored).
  • controls: 0 hides the language, league and theme menu inside the widget (default 1).
  • height: height reserved before the widget loads, in pixels; the widget then resizes itself to its content.
  • tz: optional IANA time zone such as Europe/Istanbul (the visitor’s own time zone by default).
  • date: optional YYYY-MM-DD date for the fixtures widget; it wins over day.

Block

Search for “Rotascore” in the block inserter. The sidebar has every option, with searchable league and team pickers, and the block previews the live widget.

External services

This plugin embeds content from rotascore.com, a third-party service run by the plugin’s authors.

1. The widget (visitors). Each widget is an iframe loaded from https://www.rotascore.com/{language}/embed/.... A small script bundled inside this plugin (assets/loader.js; no remote JavaScript is loaded) creates the iframe and reads your page’s colors and text size so the widget matches it. It sets no cookies. When a visitor’s browser loads a page containing a widget, it connects to rotascore.com and sends the usual request data (such as IP address and user agent) to that service. The widget shows a “Rotascore” link inside the frame; the plugin does not remove or hide it.

2. The league and team search (logged-in editors only). When a logged-in user who can edit posts searches for a league or team in the block sidebar or on Settings > Rotascore Widgets, that editor’s browser (not your server) sends the typed search text and the chosen language code to https://www.rotascore.com/api/embed/search (league and team search, and the popular leagues listed before you type) to list leagues and teams. No cookies are sent and nothing is stored; answers are only kept in memory while the page is open.

3. The live preview (editors only). The preview in the editor and on the settings page is the same iframe from https://www.rotascore.com/{language}/embed/... that visitors see, loaded in the editor’s browser.

Visitors never trigger the search requests, and the plugin stores no personal data. The widgets themselves are loaded from rotascore.com by the visitors’ browsers.

FAQ

Do I need an account or an API key?

No. The widgets are free to embed. Pick a league or team and you are done.

Can I use it with Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or the Classic Editor?

Yes. Create the shortcode under Settings > Rotascore Widgets and paste it into the shortcode element of your builder or into the Classic Editor. Themes that use widget areas without blocks can use the “Rotascore Football Widget” under Appearance > Widgets.

Does it work with caching plugins and CDNs?

Yes. The page only contains an empty container; the live data is loaded in the visitor’s browser from rotascore.com, so scores stay live on cached pages. The one exception is day="yesterday" or day="tomorrow": the date is fixed when the page is generated, so a page that stays in the cache for days can show an outdated day. Purge the cache daily, or keep the default today, which follows each visitor. If your caching plugin delays or combines JavaScript, exclude rotascore-live-scores-widget/assets/loader.js.

Can I show only the matches that are being played now?

Yes. Turn on “Live matches only” in the block sidebar or the shortcode generator (or use live="1"). The fixtures widget then lists only the live matches, still grouped by league, hides the day buttons and says “No live matches right now” when nothing is on.

Will it match my dark theme?

By default the theme is auto: the widget reads the background and text color of the place where you put it and switches between light and dark. If you want a fixed look, choose Light or Dark in the block sidebar or add theme="dark" to the shortcode.

Which leagues and teams are available?

The competitions and teams of Rotascore, from the top leagues and cups to many lower divisions around the world. Search for the name in the picker; if you can find it on rotascore.com you can use it here.

Can I change the language?

Yes. Choose the language in the block sidebar or use the lang attribute. The widget is available in 53 languages, and visitors can change the language inside the widget unless you turn the controls off. The plugin’s own screens are translated through translate.wordpress.org.

Is it GDPR friendly? Does it track visitors?

The plugin sets no cookies, adds no tracking and stores no personal data. The widget is an iframe served by rotascore.com, so the visitor’s browser connects to that service like it does for any embedded content; see the privacy policy linked in the External services section. Whether you need to mention it in your own privacy policy or consent tool depends on your site and your country, so please check your own requirements.

Will it slow down my site?

The widget loads only when it comes near the visible screen (lazy loading), the bundled script is small, no layout jump happens because the height is reserved, and the iframe pauses its live updates when it is out of view.

Can I remove the Rotascore link or the branding in the widget?

No. The widget shows a small “Rotascore” link as part of the free service, and the plugin does not offer a way to hide it. Please do not hide it with CSS either.

The widget is cut off or has too much empty space.

The widget resizes itself to its content when your theme prints scripts in the footer. You can also set the height attribute to change the space reserved while it loads.

My theme loads page content with JavaScript (popups, tabs, single-page navigation).

Widgets inserted after the page has loaded are picked up automatically. If your theme replaces content in a way that is not noticed, call window.RotascoreWidgets.scan() once after inserting the widget container.

དག་བཅོས་ཉིན་ཐོ།

1.4.1

  • Fix: day="yesterday" and day="tomorrow" are now worked out in the visitor’s browser instead of when the page is built, so a page cache (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed, W3 Total Cache, Cloudflare) can no longer pin the fixtures widget to an old day.
  • Fix: widgets added to the page after it loaded (single-page themes, popups, AJAX tabs) are set up automatically; widgets that leave the page are cleaned up.
  • Fix: the bundled loader ignores a script URL that is not a Rotascore address, so a JavaScript optimiser that re-serves it from your own domain cannot break the widget.
  • Fix: a widget left open keeps updating (retries after a failed load, moves on after midnight, follows matches that are delayed or interrupted) and stops showing “live” when it cannot refresh.

1.4.0

  • New: top scorers widget (type="scorers"): goals, assists and cards of a league for the season, with a block variation “Rotascore Top Scorers”.
  • New: single match widget (type="match"): score, minute and match events; enter the match id or paste its Rotascore link. Block variation “Rotascore Match”.
  • New: the standings widget shows the groups of a league that has several (cup group stage) as tabs, with a zone legend; optional group attribute.

1.3.0

  • New: “Live matches only” option for the fixtures widget (live="1", block sidebar toggle and shortcode generator): shows only the matches in play, grouped by league.
  • Fix: the fixtures widget now says “No matches on this day” instead of “No matches today” when you look at yesterday, tomorrow or another date.

1.2.0

  • New: search leagues and teams by name, with logos, in the block sidebar. No more ids to copy.
  • New: the block shows the real widget as a live preview in the editor.
  • New: every option is in the block sidebar: widget type, leagues or team, day (today, yesterday, tomorrow), language, theme, width, rows, highlighted team, team logos, visitor controls.
  • New: Settings > Rotascore Widgets, a shortcode generator with live preview and a copy button.
  • New: block variations “Rotascore Standings”, “Rotascore Live Scores” and “Rotascore Team Matches”, and conversion of [rotascore] shortcode blocks to blocks.
